Minnesota Commercial Real Estate Women President's Message

An optimist is the human personification of spring.
~Susan J. Bissonette

I write this coming off of a beautiful evening spent outside watching the Twins (lose, unfortunately), and my head is full of dreams for the upcoming summer. The activity level for my peers and clients continues to climb, and I’ve heard many MNCREW members say they are experiencing the same. Spring is in the air, and the market is buzzing.

Certain segments of the commercial real estate industry have a pulse for the first time in years, while other areas are entering a true recovery period. For example, the Minneapolis market for industrial product has continued to tighten to a point where now we are one of ten markets nationally that have a definitive “shortage” of large blocks of space. (Source: CBRE Econometric Advisors “12 Trends for 2012”)

There are still only spots across the country with healthy market conditions, and rents remain too low to justify new construction, but the green shoots of a sunnier tomorrow are poking up through the ground all the same. How can MNCREW members benefit from the rising confidence and fading fear factor in the market? Continue to educate yourselves, nurture and care for your clients, and network with your fellow members so that you are exposed to the opportunities when they bloom.

Sincerely,

Emily Nicoll, CBRE
